Man of Honor

Yesterday I went to a memorial service for a man from church. I knew him as a happy, kind hearted, barrel chested man with a booming voice who doted on his grandchildren. At the service I saw glimpse of much more of him. He was a Marine who fought in Korea, he was a drill instructor and he later earned a master's degree in mathematics and a P.H.D. in computer science.

I feel bad I did not fully appreciate the man and see the depth of his person. Don't let appearances be everything. The Bible requires us to love each other, to care for each other and be a brother in Christ.
